Australia’s coal seam gas sector is growing rapidly, creating valuable jobs, domestic power generation, export income and tax revenue.
It is also driving significant regional development in several parts of Queensland, in particular the Western Downs (centred on Chinchilla), Maranoa (centred on Roma), Toowoomba and Gladstone.
As a fuel, natural gas combines abundance, cleanness, reliability and flexibility. It is also a widely used industrial feedstock.
Without gas, many industries would lack power and a vital ingredient in some of their chemical processes. In addition, electricity production would produce more emissions and would be more expensive and less reliable.
Growing the nation’s gas production will increase the production of reliable, cleaner energy and will enhance energy security and economic development both in Australia and in our Asian export markets.
